All these aforementioned functions and features are implemented in the DLI™ based APUS or ARES ASIC families. Video equipment manufactures can simply connect these chips to their existing standard video/audio bus to provide a DLI™ connection. Each ASIC provides a single chip solution to interface with a standard video/audio/control bus on one side and a DLI™ interface on the other. The video bus supports 24 bit, 30 bit or 36 bit interfaces. Besides all the video pixel data, the video stream also contains timing information including HSYNC, VSYNC, DATA ENABLE, and Video clock to synchronize the video transmitter in (DVD players or Set-top boxes) and video receivers (TV or projector). The source ASIC device will automatically detect the video format and collect all the video information and transmits it to the single fiber. The destination DLI™ device receives the high speed data, de-multiplexes different types of traffic, and then regenerates all of data to its original format and content. Video equipment may operate in different video modes. Examples are 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. Computer displays may add more video operation modes such as XGA, WXGA, or SXGA. For each video mode, the current video equipment may support 24 bit per video pixel. However, the next generation video equipment may support deep colors such as 30 bit or 36 bit per pixel. OWLink’s ASICs are designed to support all these modes automatically. The ASIC will support audio in both the forward / backward directions to make the speaker wiring options easier and will support intercom applications.
